and grace. His wife of 69 years, Doris June Sneddon was at his side. He is survived by his
daughters Lorraine Weyrauch and Barbara Fitzgerald, four grandchildren; Megan, Keith, Eric
and Grant, and five great grandchildren.
Ray was born November 13, 1926 and raised in Regina Saskatchewan Canada. The son of Jock
and Lily Sneddon he had one sister Catherine who predeceased him As the son of a Scottish
immigrant he studied and played bagpipes, first during WWII with the Regina Boys Pipe Band
and Canadian Reserve Army, 211d Division Signal Corps and later as Pipe Major of the Clan
Macleay Pipe Band in Portland Oregon from 1965 to 1972, retiring from the band in 1985.
In 1948, in Winnipeg Manitoba Canada, Ray married his childhood friend Doris June Barton
whom he met during youthful summers yearly spent at their respective family cottages at Regina
Beach.
As an adult he followed in his father's footsteps and became a printer and typesetter. In 1958 he
and Doris moved from Canada to Portland Oregon to become owner/operator of Portland
Linotyping Company until his retirement in 1989.
After retiring he and Doris traveled the world visiting their many close friends and family
members. At their warm and welcoming home in Hillsboro Oregon they frequently welcomed
friends and family where they shared lots of laughter, storytelling, a "lifter", and bagpipe music,
and always flew the flag of their guest's country.
One of his favorite stories is of the time at age 15 he was a stage assistant and official "pooper
scooper" for the elephant show with a traveling circus that came through his home town. Good at
his "job" and dazzled by the applause he was determined to continue in this profession until his
father firmly said absolutely nay.
It is said that we are all stories in the end so we should make it a good one. Ray did that. He
found joy in everything he did. He was kind, thoughtful, wise and encouraging of others. He was
equal parts proud and humble. Everything he did was in devotion to his beloved wife Doris and
to his family. He loved his family and friends and, in turn, was deeply loved and respected by
them
