He enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam War. He went on to become a barber, eventually co-owning his own barbershop.
On September 28, 2002, he married his wife of 25 years, Cheryl. The two met a year prior when he was in front of his barbershop, and she was outside of her beauty salon.
John had many interests, including vehicles, antiques, shopping, shoes, and Felix the cat. He had a wonderful sense of humor and everyone who knew him knew they had to watch out for pranks involving snakes, spiders, bats, and skeletons.
He’ll be remembered for his dedication, punctuality, genuineness, and his caring and hardworking nature. John was old school. He was a devoted husband, friend, and relative.
John is survived by his wife, Cheryl; siblings: Jackie, Judy, and Jim; nephew, Jimmy; niece, Pam and a host of other relatives; as well as stepchildren: Carmen, Craig, Tiffany, Ray and Ryan and grandchildren: Brent, Arian, Isaiah, Ashton, and Jessa.
A memorial service with military honors will be held at 12:30pm on Friday, October 25th at Willamette National Cemetery, 11800 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland.
