Express gratitude always and give freely to those who might need what you have to give. This is how Joseph “Joe” Frank Neuman lived his life until August 8. He is now walking on both legs in pain-free peace with the Lord. His spirit is carried on in his two daughters, five grandchildren, two surviving brothers, an extended family and innumerable friends from every walk of life.
We were blessed to learn many valuable lessons from Joe during his 61 years of life, among them: Never pass up dessert or a game of cribbage. Also: Smile at everyone you pass. Tell jokes- as often as possible, and laugh even more often. Don’t get peanut butter in the jelly, or mustard in the mayonnaise, and ensure your piece of bread is completely covered with aforementioned condiment. Most importantly, respect women and the elderly.
Above all, Joe was not afraid to confess Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He expressed his faith through the way he lived his life and epitomized the words of John 13:34-35: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”
Joe is survived by his children and grandchildren, whose photos and art adorned his apartment and Bible: Melissa (husband Kevin Merriman, children Alik Odegard, Westin and Rhys Fryar); Angela (husband Stefan Walz, children Haley Jo and Foxx); siblings, John and Dave and many beautiful nieces, nephews, friends and family too numerous to list but certainly not forgotten.
He is reunited with his three predeceased siblings, Nancy (Schmidt), Tommy and Marlene (Ellenburg), and niece Melanie (Hawkins).
A service to celebrate Joe’s life will be held at 10am, Saturday, Aug. 16 in Community of Christ Church, 4837 NE Couch St., Portland. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Portland Rescue Mission.
