JoAnn graduated from Girl’s Polly-tech High School and went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from Portland State University in 1976. During her college years, JoAnn worked for Dr. Marshall while going to school fulltime and raising her two sons.
JoAnn worked as a parole officer with juveniles for WIC in Portland and retired in 1995. Working with troubled youth wasn’t just a job for JoAnn, she found great rewards in extending her love and care to the individuals she worked with, often forming bonds that carried on through the years.
In 1959, JoAnn married Robert Lewis Rogers. The couple had two sons, Robert Andre and Franchone.
JoAnn enjoyed fishing, reading her bible, spending time with family, and traveling to various places like Israel and Hawaii. She was a woman of strong faith and demonstrated her devotion to the Lord over the course of years that she was a member of New Song Community Church. She was a member for over 20 years. She was also a member of the House of Prayer of All Nations which is where she first came to know the Lord as her Savior.
JoAnn went to be with her Lord on March 5, 2010 in Clackamas, Or. A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM, Thursday, March 11, 2010 in New Song Community Church. Viewing will be from 9:00AM to 5:00PM, Wednesday, March 10, 2010 in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
JoAnn is survived by her son, Robert Andre Rogers and his wife, Kaye; sister, Shirley Brown; uncle, Robert Dawson; grandchildren, Marcus, Tamera, and Franchone Jr.; and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her son, Franchone.
JoAnn leaves behind a legacy of love and strength. Those who were blessed to have known her will remember her for her endless compassion, love, and giving nature. She will be sorely missed.
