Joan Mary Keefe, 85, of McKinney, Texas, passed away at home early Monday, Jan. 9 after a long and valiant struggle with cancer. The second daughter of Evans and Marie (Miller) McLean, Joan was born on July 17, 1931, in Portland, Ore., where she attended Holy Child Academy and was an accomplished figure skater. Joan spent 31 years as a military spouse, raising five children throughout the turmoil of frequent moves and deployments. She loved to travel and had a great sense of adventure. She also volunteered countless hours in support of her children’s activities and devoted herself to causes that bettered the lives of others. She loved visiting with family and friends, playing the piano, reading and solving puzzles. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, brother Evans McLean, sister-in-law Rosie McLean, son-in- law Robert Cleveland and brother-in-law John McLaughlin. She is survived by her two sisters, Dolores McLaughlin and Marilyn Sykes and Marilyn’s husband Bill, and her children Jackie Cleveland, Shawn Keefe, Maureen Keefe, Therese Bateman and husband Doug, and Tim Keefe and wife Sherry; and her grandchildren, Tim, Paul, Jennifer, Tony, Jake, Kacey, Matthew, Jennifer, Stephen, Daniel, Chris, Crystal and Connor. She is also survived by 17 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and her Cairn Terriers Sophie and Sadie.
