A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday September 7, 2011, in St. Therese Catholic Church, 1260 NE 132nd Ave., Portland, Oregon, 97230, for Joan M. Daugherty, who passed away August 29, 2011, at age 77. Recitation of the rosary will be at 3:00 pm, Tuesday, September 6, at Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday from 10:00 am to 4:00pm. September 6, 2011, in gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes, 1515 NE 106th Ave., Portland, Oregon, 97220.
Mrs. Daugherty passed away in her home surrounded by family. She was born February 1, 1934, in Miles City, Montana. In 1942 at the age of 8 her family moved to Portland, Oregon. She attended Catholic grade school and was a graduate of Washington High School.
At age 14 she met the love of her life who she married in 1952, and had 12 children. She was an amazing wife and mother. She was her families comforter, provider and security. As a member of the Catholic community she emulated love and compassion for all people. The greatest lessons she taught were forgiveness, humility and charity. people who knew her have many fond memories of her many talents. A few of those were, cooking, sewing, canning, writing poetry, singing and especially the devotion to the Holy Mother Mary and all the angels and saints.
Survivors include her daughter Elizabeth Irey and Brenda Guerrero of Vancouver, WA., son Daniel Daugherty from Richland, WA., daughter Louise Plasterer of Spokane, WA., son Thomas Daugherty of Gresham, OR., son Michael Daugherty, daughters Joan Bell, Teresa Looper, Dorothy St. Amand, Catherine Daugherty, and Cynthia Daugherty of Portland, Oregon. Sister Mary Straub and sister-in-law Linda Davie of Portland, Oregon, 31 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
She was proceeded in death by her husband James F. Daugherty and son John P. Daugherty.
Interment will be in Gethsemani Cemetary following the reception at St. Therese Catholic Church. The family suggests rememberances to St. Labre Indian School, Ashland, Mt., 59004-1001.
Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes has the honor of directing arrangements for the Daugherty Family.
