She will be remembered as a much loved Mom, Grammie, and Great Grammie who took pride in her family. Born in 1925 in Clintonville, Wisconsin to Herbert and Esther Steege, she moved to Chicago in 1944 for nursing school to “help the war effort” where she met and married her sweetheart, Richard B. Parker in 1945 before moving out west. They were married for over 50 years, prior to his passing. She was later re-married and re-widowed.
She loved Jesus, and was actively involved in church throughout her life, attending West Portland United Methodist for the last 55 years where she was Parish nurse and actively involved in the VRN (Volunteer Registered Nurse Association).
Her sister, Dorothy Palmer, preceded her in death. Jeanette leaves behind two brothers, Donald and James Steege of Wisconsin; four daughters, Dawn Forrest, Marsha Sundquist (John), Barbara Weaver (Eric), and Heidi Agun (Daniel); eight grandchildren, Richard, Karl, Rebecca, Kimberly, Brian, Brady, D. Michael, and Heather; and ten great grandchildren, Tanner, Gavin, Georgette, Richie, Benjamin, Maxwell, Audrey, Lincoln, Beatrice, and Claire.
A celebration of her life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 27th (Richard and Jeanette’s Anniversary), at West Portland United Methodist Church, 4729 SW Taylors Ferry Road.
In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Legacy Hopewell House.
