She attended St. Agatha Grade School and graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in 1947.
Jean had a twin sister, Geraldine “Geri” Hart Bailey, who preceded her in death. Jean and Geri shared many life experiences, including being novices in the Catholic Church. Jean proudly identified with Geri in their unique experience. Jean married Robert Volz in 1954 and dedicated her life to raising a family in the faith and tradition of the Catholic Church. Jean was an active parishioner there for the past 53 years. She
also worked outside of the home at Providence Hospital for over two decades. She was key to developing and integrating the pathology departments of the Providence Group.
Jean was known for her kindness and appreciation of others. She has left this legacy for all who knew her. Jean had a quick wit and found humor and joy in the many antics of her children and grandchildren. Jean is the last of her generation to experience the Great Depression and WWII. She was preceded
in death by her husband, Robert; and two of her children, Edward and James. Jean is survived by five children, Robert Volz, Joseph Volz, Stephen Volz, Maria Brinker, and Phillip Volz. She will be lovingly remembered by her 12 grandchildren, Nicole Kunioka-Volz, Natalie Volz, Lani Kunioka-Knupfel,
Taylor Volz, Erin Volz, Johanna Volz, Annalia Richardson, Kacie Kunioka-Volz, Claire Volz, Helena Brinker, Rebecca Brinker, and Susanna Brinker. Jean also had four great-grandchildren who brought her much joy. Jean touched so many people spreading faith and joy to her extensive family and friends. She
will be remembered with love.
A rosary and funeral Mass will be held Saturday, Jan. 20, 2024, at Saint Rose of Lima Church—2727 N.E. 54th, Portland, OR. The rosary will occur at 10:30 a.m., with the funeral Mass following at 11 a.m.
