Most of her early life was spent in Dallas, OR where she started high school. Jean then went to live with the Martin family on a ranch in Perrydale, OR to help with their two little boys and some household chores.
Jean spent a short time at Dallas High School where she met Frank Farris. They dated through his high school years. He was in the National Guard.
Then WWII broke out. He was called up into the Army.
On Jan 17th, 1942, Jean and Frank were married at a Justice of the Peace in Port Orchard, WA.
Ten days later, he shipped out for over three years. While he was in New Guinee, Jean moved to Portland with Frank's family and got a job building PBY airplanes. After Frank's return, they bought a house and had a baby daughter, Cheryl.
Frank and Jean had many adventures together. One special one was several years living in Alaska for part of the year. Going back and forth was a challenge for her. The other big change was buying a trailer park in Seaside, OR. They left there when Frank's health started failing. Dallas was home again for them until Frank's death in February 1989. They had 47 years of marriage.
Frank's lifelong best friend, Harold Peterson, had moved in with them to help Jean care for Frank. Harold had retired and his wife had passed away. Cheryl was living in Huntsville, AL at that time, with her family. Harold was a blessing in many ways. Before Frank's passing, he told Cheryl he was fine with the relationship developing between Harold and her mother. Cheryl also gave her loving support to Harold and Jean's relationship.
On June 1st, 1989, Jean became Mrs. Harold Peterson in an adorable pioneer church in Drain, OR. She deserved to be a real bride, church wedding, with family and friends all present! What a beautiful day! It seemed natural for Jean to join the Peterson family. The time she spent with them was a joy to her.
Harold and Jean lived on the ranch in Yoncalla, OR, until the Cayton family moved back to Portland.
In 1996, they moved back to Portland also, where they lived until Harold's passing in 2015. They had many trips and happy adventures together.
When married, they prayed for "10 good years together"! Harold and Jean were married for almost 26 years.
Cheryl's family moved to 5 different states. Jean loved coming to visit all those homes and see new places and do fun things with her "kids". She only had one daughter, so having 3 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson was a real blessing to her.
Jean Peterson has lived in Avamere at Bethany since June of 2014. She has lived in 3 apartments and has always gotten wonderful, loving care. Her family will be forever grateful.
Jean suffered health problems for several years. She has had her faith and love of the Heavenly Father for comfort. She has had her family close for love and support.
Now the suffering is over, and she is with all her loved ones that have gone before her. We are here in faith, love and respect for Jean, to wish her Rest in Peace.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.skylinememorialgardens.com for the Peterson family.
