Jean May Gillies was born on March 4, 1928 in Olympia, Washington to Bill and Madeline Lucas and died at the age of 82 in Sandy, Oregon on Monday, Otober 25, 2010. Jean grew up in the Raymond, Washington area and then went to school at Washington State in Pullman. She married Donald "Jim" Gillies on July 1, 1949 in Port Orchard, Washington. They lived in the Parkrose area for many years and then moved to the Mt. Hood area in 1980 where they were involved in many community activities.
Jean was a devoted mother, wife and friend and an active participant in local organizations and charities. She loved to care for people and she delivered Meals on Wheels for many years, was a member of the Glendoveer Garden Club, the Mt. Hood Women's Club and belonged to the Hoodland Lutheran Church.
Jean was predeceased by her loving husband of 59 years, Donald Gillies and her sister, Carol Jane Davis. Survivors include her daughter, Carol Handke of Greshan; Jim Gillies of West Linn, grandchildren, Jason Gillies and Jeff Gillies of Portland, Justin Handke, Robert handke, Allison Handke, and Christine Handke of Gresham and two great grandchildren.
Her gentle spirit and caring for others will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered in a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, October 30, 2010 at the Hoodland Lutheran Church off Highway 26 in Brightwood, Oregon.
Her family requests that remembrances be made to the Mt. Hood Hospice, PO Box 1269, Sandy, OR 97055.
