She is survived by her husband Elwood, her sister Lorraine, her daughter Stephanie and her 3 grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son Dirk and her sister Laura.
She was born on August 29, 1937 in West Enfield Maine to Gertrude and Willbur Smith. She graduated from Brownville Jct Highschool and went on to graduate from Husson College in Bangor Maine. She was a lifetime member of Pi Rho Zeta Sorority at Husson College. Janice then went to work for New England Telephone. While working there, she met the love of her life John (Elwood) and moved to Portland Oregon in 1959 to start a new life with him. She then went to work at Pacific Northwest Bell. She retired after 27 years of working for Pacfic Bell/US West.
She was a charter president of the Gamma Eta chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha doing many charitable fundraisers for them. She worked with the Special Olympics, volunteered at Good Samartian Hopsital in the surgical waiting area, and was a toe warmer knitter for St Vincent’s Hospital for ER patients in the NW area and Alaska. She was a member of Pittock Mansion, Wounded Warriors Project and the Telephone Pioneers. She also enjoyed playing golf whereshe met many wonderful friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wounded Warriors or St. Jude’s Hospital.
