James was born in Portland, Oregon on August 14, 1937. He attended and graduated from U.S. Grant High School in Portland, Oregon in 1951.
James served his country in the US Army Reserve and the Army National Guard as a 60MM Mortar Assistant Gunner from 1954 through 1956 and then transferred to the United States Air Force where he was successfully trained as a Radio and Radar Systems Mechanic.
James graduated from the US Air Force Air Training Command in 1956 with a Certificate of Proficiency. With this training he specialized as an Aircraft Electronic Counter measures Repairman – Jamming Equipment. James received his honorable discharge in 1962. James then worked for 22 years for the US Postal Service where he retired in 1981.
James’ faith in Christ has always been his source of strength for his life. In his early years James attended Bible Temple in Portland, Oregon and then Prairie Community Church in Vancouver, Washington where he attended and volunteered in helping to maintain the buildings and grounds. He was honored with a 20th Anniversary Serving Award – 1981 to 2001. James also graduated from Rhema Correspondence Bible School in 1999. James has been a faithful supportive member of Sunnyside Foursquare Church in Clackamas, Oregon for the past 5 years.
James is preceded in death by his parents James M. and Edith V. Knight. James is survived by his good friend and pastor, Leonard Eurich and his Sunnyside Foursquare Church family, as well as his loved family of friends at Cascade Terrace in Portland, Oregon. Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Cascade Terrace for their loving care for James.
We will all miss this wonderful, tender and giving man, James R. Knight.
