James Donald Faville, a very loving and caring husband, father, and friend passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Touchmark in the West Hills at 2:40 pm on October 11th, surrounded by his family.
“Jim” was born on February 27th, 1934, in Portland, Oregon to Frances and Richard Faville. Growing up on NE Merges Drive, Jim attended Beaumont Grade School and Grant High School.
After graduating as a history major from Stanford University in Palo Alto, California, Jim entered the US Army as an infinitary Officer. After a three-month training at Fort Benning, Georgia, Jim was stationed in South Korea for 16 months leaving behind his wife, Diana and son Jeffrey.
Jim returned after his Korean tour of duty to Portland, Oregon to work in the family business: Pacific Paper Box, where he eventually became the sole owner and added a bindery business to the company.
Jim leaves Diana, his wife of 67 years, four children: Jeffrey James Faville (Cynthia) Jamie 27 years and Catherine 21 years; Christopher Steven Faville; David Dewees Faville (Lilli) Eli 35 years and Max 32 years; Maria Josefa Kate Gonser (Tommer), Michael Gonser 22 years and Brianna Gonser 21 years.
It was Jim’s idea to open the Attic Art Gallery in the attic of their home on SW Sherwood Drive, Portland when Diana was going to hang paintings by Sidonie Caron in the living room of their home. The Attic is now in Camas, WA on Cedar Street.
Jim was a member of the Multnomah Athletic Club where he was a well-known squash player, tennis player, and a water volleyball player. He was a member of several boards including the Oregon Arts and Craft Society, a member of the East Rotary Club, a horseback enthusiastic and enjoyed traveling the world in most of all the other countries.
Jim’s family spent summers when he was growing up at their beach house in Roads End, OR and for many years Jim maintained the house spending much time there.
Jim loved Touchmark and the many friends that he met there and enjoyed telling numerous stories of his memories.
Jim was a very loving and caring husband, father and friend.
There will be a grave side burial military celebration at Willamette National Cemetery.
