James attended Vernon elementary school and was a graduate of Jefferson High School. After graduation James served in the US Army National Guard from 1982-1991. He worked as a commercial armored truck driver and technician. Then at United Power Washers and later worked as a carpenter.
Rusty loved him some food, when it came to food he did not play. Growing up his siblings would often call him “Mikee” because he would eat any and everything. Chicken was always his favorite.
James nickname was Rusty and he definitely measured up to his name he was:
Rusty Unpredictable Sweetheart Thankful Yielding
He loved to get “dressed” and believe me, he knew when he was sharp. Many remember him as the chocolate and young tenderoni. When he was looking clean you couldn’t tell him nothing and you were soon to see the George Jefferson Shuffle!
James loved life and family, fun outings, playing dominoes and his Mama. He always had a love for God. His most recent renewed love was going to church and singing praise songs.
Preceding him in death was his father James Richards, Grandparents Simmie Richards & LulaMae Benton, Edward & Edna B. Henderson and his Aunt Janie Henderson.
James departed this life but leaves many to rejoice in his memory; his Mother Clara Hughes; 9 Sisters: Melanie Broussard-Morris (David Sr.), Wanda Ash-Brown (Floyd), Gloria LaVonne Richards, Sharon D. Richards, Darlene Buchanan-Warren (Lenzie), Felicia Buchanan, all of Portland, OR, Marzetta Rena Richards of Auburn, WA, Jerrilynn Diane Burkes of Tallulah, LA, and Wanda Buchanan- Devers of Houston, TX; 5 Brothers: Gregory Henderson, Anthony Richards, Carl Buchanan, all of Portland, OR, Larry Richards, Cedric Buchanan of Seattle, WA.
