James Ervin Allgaier was born in Richmond, California to Helen (Schortgen) and Ervin Allgaier on February 23, 1937. Jim grew up in Richmond and he graduated from Richmond High School in 1955. He attended Chico State University for two years where he was a member of Phi Kappa Tau Fraternity. He then enlisted in the US Army for two years. Following his time in the Army, Jim returned to Chico State and graduated in 1961 with a Business degree in Marketing.
He married Margie Thornton in January of 1961. They enjoyed 57 years of marriage together. The two were blessed with two children, sons Mark and Eric.
Jim was employed with the JC Penney Company for 35 years and served as District Personal Manager in Portland Oregon and retired as the Store Manager in Logan, Utah. After Jim’s retirement, Jim and Marge returned to Portland Oregon to be closer to family.
Jim and Marge are longtime members of the Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church. They loved to travel and spend time with family and friends. They enjoyed watching sports together and they especially loved to watch the Trailblazers and San Francisco Giants.
Jim is survived by his wife Marge Allgaier; two sons: Mark Allgaier (wife Carol), and Eric Allgaier and (wife Jackie); granddaughters: Lauren Allgaier and Erin Brown (husband Cody); great-granddaughters Riley and Taylor.
A Celebration of Life will be held on February 23rd, 2019, 2pm, at the Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church, 17625 NW Cornell Road, Beaverton, OR.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Jim’s name to the American Cancer Society or to the Shepherd of The Valley Lutheran Church, Beaverton Oregon.
