At the forefront of professional women in the corporate world, Jackie worked her way through Portland State University as a single mother graduating in 1971. She worked in the City of Portland's auditor office and started her career as a certified public accountant with Moss Adams. Joining PacifiCorp in 1980, Jackie rose to the corporate officer ranks, becoming corporate controller in 1989 and retired in 1998.
While an avowed "numbers person", Jackie cared inordinately about people, especially her son, Alex, her friends and her community. She was committed first to her family and in recent years to trying to guide and nurture her great-grandson whom she loved dearly
Over the years, she served on several non-profit boards including Northwest Pilot Project, The Brain Research Awareness and Information Network (BRAINet), Planned Parenthood, Assistance League of Portland , Portland Habilitation Center, National Organization of Women and Camp Fire as well as the Portland State University Alumni Board.
In retirement, Jackie traveled extensively, visiting all the continents except Antarctica, and was an avid walker and reader, starting each day with the Wall Street Journal .
She is survived by her son, Alex, as well as aunts, cousins and devoted friend Jim Pestillo, and was preceded in death by her husband, George Arney, and mother, Maurine Swearingen.
A service commemorating her life will be held Saturday, October 26th at 1 p.m. at Skyline Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to a scholarship in Jackie's memory to the PSU Foundation, PO Box 243 Portland, OR 97207. Please mark checks in memory of Jackie Bell.
A graveside Memorial Service and Committal Ceremony will be held in Skyline Memorial Gardens on Saturday, June 7, 2014, at 11am. Please gather in Skyline Funeral Home lobby at 10:45am and we will process to the graveside from Skyline Funeral Home. Thank you.
