He was born in Amarillo, Texas on October 29, 1921.
He and his parent's George T. Riley and Kitty Irene Carter Riley moved to Portland, Oregon in the early thirties during the dust bowl.
Jack graduated from O.S.U.; B.S. in Electrical Engineering 1943, Post graduate study at Harvard University; Engineering Science and Applied Physics, M.S. at O.S.U. in Physics, Math 1950-51, Registered Professional Engineer, Oregon 1955. Research Associate, Harvard University, Radio Research Laboratory, 1943-1945. Director of Technical Services, Electro Scientific Industries, 1956-1964. Consulting Electrical Professional Engineer, 1965-2008.
Professor with Portland State University in Applied Science and Electrical Engineering,1967-1989.
Jack met and married Loraine Walter while in Cambridge, Massachusetts 1946. They both enjoyed folk and ballroom dance and exploring the country. They were avid hikers and skiers, Jack enjoyed photography and acoustic engineering.
Jack was kindly attended during his last years by a team of wonderful caregivers and Signature Hospice and Home Health teams, and family.
He is survived by nieces and nephews of Loraine and his cousins.
