Horacio (Lacho) Zarate was born May 10th, 1942 in San Vicente, Nuevo León , Mexico to Rosa Charles Zarate and Tiburcio Zarate. He moved to the United States at the age of 13 to La Grulla Texas, where he met his future wife. His family followed crops as migrant workers around the United States.
In 1963 he married Rumalda (Malda) Zarate. In 1967 he decided that he wanted a more stable life for his wife and daughter (soon followed by another daughter). He got a warehouse job and purchased their first home in 1968 in Sandy, OR. They lived in the Sandy area for 42 years.
He enjoyed playing golf, bowling, dancing, playing cards and traveling with his family. As long as his daughters wanted to do something he went along for the ride whether that meant skiing in the yard during a snow storm or peddling quad bikes around the boardwalk at Disney World.
Family included anyone who came into his home.
He is survived by his daughters Iliana Leach and husband Tom of Corvallis, Oregon, Maria Zarate and granddaughter Sofia Zarate, and loving wife of 51 years Rumalda Zarate, of Gladstone, Oregon.
He died the morning of August 23rd, 2014. A funeral service will be held in his honor at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home on Saturday, August 30th, 2014 at 1:00pm. Following the funeral service, Horacio will be laid to rest in Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be missed.
