Harry H. Hanschar Jr.

Harry Harvey Hanschar passed away on January 24, 2019. He was born on September 5, 1927 on his family’s homestead near Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada to Harry Hanschar and Amelia Schock. When Harry was a teen, he was scouted by the Canadian National Hockey League, but he declined, settin gout for fame and fortune in Hollywood in 1946. Stopping in Salem, Oregon to visit family, he met the love of his life, Irene Rosa Raaf at a Halloween party. They were married 5 months later, started a family and lived on a farm in Pratum. Harry worked for Cascade Meat Company in Salem, and later Kummer Meats in Hillsboro. In 1949, Harry became a naturalized citizen and moved the family to Portland in 1960. Harry had a love for woodworking and he and Irene had a booth at the World’s Largest Christmas Bazaar at the Expo Center for 33 years. He also had a love for apples and became an expert grafter with hopes to create a new apple. He belonged to the Home Orchard Society for 31 years. Harry is survived by his daughter, Betty Huser of Portland, his son Harry “Al” Allen and Mary of West Linn and granddaughter Carol Lucier of Reno.
