Following high school, Harley enlisted in the United States Air Force.
On November 19, 1956, Harley exchanged wedding vows with Helen McMann in Longview, Wa. The couple had two children, Dave and Karen.
Harley worked for Freightliner as a maintenance mechanic for over 36 years. He retired in 1998 at the age of 62.
Harley was able to enjoy his many hobbies in retirement. He found great pleasure engaging in outdoor activities. He especially enjoyed fishing, kite flying, camping and hunting. His daughter fondly remembers her father taking her on fishing and camping trips.
Harley passed away July 29, 2012 in Portland, Ore. He was 76 years old. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 2, 2012 in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will be in Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Harley’s name to the National Parkinson Foundation. Harley is survived by his loving wife, Helen; daughter, Karen Ryan; brothers, Cecil and Bill; sisters, Marjean, Peggy and Martha; grandchildren, Christy and Meghan; and great-grandchildren, Hailey and Morgan. Harley was preceded in death by his son, Dave in 1987, granddaughter, Katie in 2005, brother, Jay and sister, Letha. He will be greatly missed, but remembered as a strong and quiet man.
