Greg was diagnosed with cancer and a bowel obstruction exactly one month before he passed away. He lived the last month of his life with courage, strength, gratitude, and love.
Greg is survived by his wife Lisa, his daughter Ali, his son-in-law Tim, his grandson Reed, his mother Jeanette, his sister Shari, and his brother Bobby. He is a beloved uncle who is survived by six nieces, four nephews, and four grandnephews.
Greg earned a Master’s in Organizational Psychology and spent his career helping people who work in the public sector adapt to and incorporate change after purchasing new human resource systems. He loved his work and planned to work until at least the age of 70. He was a devoted, hardworking, patient, and well-respected member of his team at Oracle.
Greg loved living in Oregon and spending time in nature. The Metolius River, Mt Hood, and Depoe Bay were among his favorite places. He enjoyed bird watching and fed the birds and squirrels in his yard every morning for 20 years. He loved cats and took in many strays over the years. Cats preferred him to anyone else in the house, and his cat Roxie was constantly by his side as his health declined.
Greg would likely say that his greatest accomplishments were being an Eagle Scout, getting into recovery and remaining clean and sober for 26 years, raising Ali, nurturing his marriage, and being Reed’s grandpa.
People who love him speak of his sense of humor, his patience, his loyalty, his generosity, his kindness, and his ability to remain calm and grounded. He had a way of making people feel safe, welcome, and at ease. He always, always made us laugh.
We will honor Greg in a memorial service at Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary on Friday February 24th at 2:00 pm. We would love for you to join us as we share what we loved about him as well as some of his favorite things. The service will be followed by a reception at Finley Sunset Hills in the Godiva Room.
Donations to Jackson Bottom Wetlands, Portland Rescue Mission, and Providence Hospice are welcome and appreciated.
