George E. Sykes

George was born on October 28, 1925 in Portland, Oregon to parents Elizabeth and Duane Sykes. He grew up in Portland and graduated from Jefferson High School. He started his college education but after two years enlisted in the US Navy during World War II. He honorably served his country seeing active combat in Hawaii and was discharged in 1946.

After the war he returned home to Portland and married his sweetheart, Lois I. Watts. They had four children and raised their family in Portland.

George’s memory will be cherished by his beloved wife: Lois Sykes; children: Victoria McCary, Dennis and Teri Sykes, and Renee Sykes; grandchildren: Heather and Mark Wilson, Michelle McCary, Devyn and Steve Lomax, Madelyn Sykes, Brianne Sykes; three great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Ellen Otis; and two siblings: William and Marilyn Sykes and Patricia Slater. George was preceded in death by his sister, Naomi Parks a son, Gerald Sykes and a son-in-law, Michael McCary.
