I have such fond memories of our time in Oregon spent with Chad and Elaine and their family as a young man, working in Corallis, and later with my family.  Chad was such a wonderful example to all of us and I learned a great deal from his experiences.  Just this past month I was teaching missionaries in New Zealand about the things he taught me from Toastmasters on how to not "um" and "ah".  I'm sure this crew is enjoying catching up.

I will aways remember Uncle Chad as a wonderful man.  We always looked forward to spending time with the family in Oregon.  I'm sure this crew is loving being all together again.

When I think of Uncle Chad and Aunt Elaine, I am so grateful for the closeness we had to them and their family.  With them in Oregon and us in Utah, we could very easily have rarely seen this part of our family.  But I’m pretty sure as I was growing up, every year either they came to visit here at Grandma and Grandpa Scott’s house, or we went to visit them in Oregon.   We would always stop and spend the day at their home in Beaverton and then head out the next day to their beach cabin at Seaside.  Sometimes they’d come out there too.  Grandma and Grandpa would often come too since Oregon was where they had raised their family and that was why Chad still lived there. 
     Because of them, Oregon just felt like a home away from home.  We always loved our extended family!  
       I also played the violin and so did Chad, so that was another thing we shared.  I would bring my violin up to Grandpa and Grandma’s house when he came to visit. He would play on my violin…  He was always fun and engaging with me as a child.  
     I always felt loved by both of them and I am so grateful that they valued and prioritized our family relationships.   Otherwise, I may not have even known my cousins very well.  Instead, to this day I still feel a great deal of love and fondness for my awesome cousins who are all still here.  
    Thank you Uncle Chad and Aunt Elaine for being a cherished part of my life with your family.  I love you! 💕❤️

I'm sorry to hear about this nice man who was friendly to everyone. I'll miss to see hís sunshine smile. Hé was a great bishop, while I was in the University Ward so many years ago. Sending my condolences and prayers to everyone 🙏

I have many fond memories of Chad. After Elaine passed, Dave and I took Chad and his sister Sharon and her husband David camping to Capitol Reef National Park in our motorhome. It just happened to fall at the time of a government shutdown when all the national parks were closed. We parked on the highway outside the park and walked in. We were able to take several hikes with no other people in sight. That evening we drove the motorhome up Boulder Mountain to camp just as snow was starting to appear along the road. It was a clear, moonless night and the stars were unbelievable. I’ll never forget Chad’s amazement as he looked up at the Milky Way so clearly visible in the dark night sky. Later after Chad married Marge, we would stay in their home on trips to the northwest, and they in turn would stay with us on their yearly trips down to BYU NAC meetings. I also have memories of the many timeshare trips we took with them to Canada, to Whistler and the next year to Lake Okanagan, to St. George, Branson, Hawaii, and Solana Beach near San Diego. On the St. George trip, I remember Chad and Marge (who were late risers) getting up before dawn to take early morning walks with Dave and me along the Virgin River Trail. One day we hiked Angel’s Landing. When we started up the highly challenging last mile, I was relieved when we wisely decided to turn back. This part of the trail should only be attempted by experienced hikers, but 72-year-old Chad had been willing and up to the challenge. Our last trip with them was in February of 2017 to Solana Beach. One of my fond memories of this trip was, what I would call, our “private” San Diego Temple session. We were late getting to the temple and were surprised when they held the session for us. We discovered the reason when we entered the endowment room and saw only two other patrons. This trip was dear to our hearts because Marge passed away 4 months later and Dave 6 months after that.
