Gai Thi Phan passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family on Jan. 17, 2013. She was 89. Gai was born on May 17, 1923 to Ap Phan and Nguyen Pham, in Nam Dinh, Vietnam. She was a resident of Portland, Oregon.
Gai married her soul mate, Nghia Luong in 1944. They were married for 63 years until he passed away on Jan. 17, 2007.
Gai and Nghia had thirteen children while living in Saigon, Vietnam. They immigrated to the United States in Oct. 1975. It was an arduous journey and it is remarkable that her whole family was able to reunite in America.
Gai is survived by her sons, Trung and wife, Thao, Hien and wife, Chi, Dung and wife, Yen, Hung and wife, Hoa, Khang and wife, Tu, Son and wife, Christine, Peter, Allen and partner, Jeffrey; and adopted son, Renee and wife, Rabiah. She is also survived by her daughters, Hieu, Julie and husband, Vinh, Ha and husband, Minh, and Mai and husband, Lan. Her husband; parents; three brothers, Ton, Lu and Dam; and daughter, Hang preceded her in death.
Gai was the proud grandmother of 34, and great-grandmother of 17 with 3 more great-grandchildren on their way as of this writing.
A memorial service will be held in Gai’s honor on Sunday, Jan. 20th at 7 a.m. at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt. Scott Blvd., Portland, Or 97086. Lincoln Memorial Park will be Gai’s final resting place beside her husband.
She will forever be loved and missed by her family and friends.
