Ruth met Perry Hughes in Sunday school when she was 6 years old, and the two grew up together. They began dating, then married on June 24, 1948. He was the only man she ever loved, and they were married for 66 years.

She was a dedicated churchgoer who was active in the choir, and was a member of several churches throughout her life: First Baptist Church in Ogden, Utah, Temple Baptist in Oregon, Errol Heights Baptist in Oregon, and Milwaukie Covenant Church in Oregon.
Family was Ruth’s biggest hobby. She also loved animals (especially dogs), singing in the choir, arranging flowers, hiking, and supporting her husband Perry in all that he did. She smiled big, laughed often, and loved well. She will forever be remembered for her joyful spirit and servant’s heart. She trusted God in all situations and always choose joy.
Ruth is survived by her brother Jim Vance, son John Hughes (Susan), daughters Frieda Cummings (Rob) and Karen Beaudin, as well as 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
