A former Portland resident passed away Sunday, March 18, in Colorado Springs. He was 94 years of age. Born in Lincoln County, Kan., on July 23, 1917, He moved to Colorado as a young boy with his family. Mr. Rathbun enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands for most of the war. He also served in the Marine Corps during the Korean War. After the war he remained in Portland. He retired from the Oregon Steel Mills in 1976. Following the death of his wife, Irene Aultman, in 1981, Mr. Rathbun returned to Colorado Springs, where he married Alma Graham. She preceded him in death on March 9, of this year. Also preceding him in death were his parents, James L. and Edith B. (Watson) Rathbun; sister, Sara Leona Massey; brothers, Henry, Ernest, Edwin and Ethan; and former wives Virginia Graske and Irene (Johnson) Aultman. Surviving are sister, Leora of Shallowater, Texas; brother, Ivan of Colorado Springs; daughters, Edith Steward of Tampa, Fla., and Jenean McBrearty of Lexington, KY; stepchildren, Alice Aultman Allen and Marvin Aultman both of Vancouver; Alma's daughter, Charlene Horning of Irvine, Calif.; and many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at a later time. Entombment will be at Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland.
