Edmond Emil Wilke was born April 26, 1921 in Waterbury, Connecticut the son of Emil and Paulina (Gorske) Wilke. He was raised in Waterbury along with his two brothers, Richard and Herbert and lived there until 2005 when he moved to Portland to be near his daughter.
Edmond joined the United States Navy and served his country from September 27, 1943 until April 4, 1946. He was married to Victoria Dorothy Osowiecki in 1946. She preceded him in death on March 4, 1979. Edmond was a well respected machinist. His photograph dawned the front cover of a National Machinist Magazine, but he never boasted about his accomplishments. He worked for 40 + years for Rowbottom Machine Company now American Cam.
Edmond will be remembered as a gentle man and gentleman! He was known by everyone as “Uncle Ed”. He never said an unkind word to anyone and was quick and generous to help those in need.
Ed was fond of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, camping and photographing nature and landscapes. He was also a resourceful and talented craftsman and handyman who could fix anything!
He is preceded in death by his parents, brothers and wife. Survivors include his children, Edmond E. Wilke Jr., Joan D. Wilke and Kevin R. Wilke; granddaughter, Elena Wilke and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Graveside Service with Military Honors will be held Wednesday, December 21, 2011 at 1:00 pm at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon.
