Dora Eleanor Hood was born December 12, 1922 to Joel and Ruby Hood in Midvale, Idaho. Dora fondly remembered her early years growing up with her 5 brothers and 4 sisters along with other family members that also lived in Midvale. Dora moved from Midvale to Vancouver, Washington in the early 1940’s when her dad went to work in the shipyards to help with the war effort. She then moved to Spokane, Washington to live with other family members. While she was there, she met a young man, Stanley Poole, who she married on December 18, 1942. They were happily married for 46 years before Stan’s passing. Along the way, they lived in Vancouver and Spokane, Washington, Baker, Oregon, Eureka, Atascadero/Paso Robles, Vacaville, and Woodland, California. While in Vancouver, Washington, Dora’s son John was born and then, while in Spokane, Washington Kathy joined the family. Shannon was born in Vancouver, Washington and later, while in Baker, Oregon her son Morgan was born. When the family was living in Woodland, Jenni was adopted into the family.
Dora was a homemaker, taught Bible classes, and showed hospitality in opening her home, while serving as a preacher’s wife in many of the locations they lived. Dora loved to sew and made many clothes for herself, her kids, and her grandkids. She also made dolls, knit, and crocheted. She loved to cook and care for her family and others around her. Dora often “adopted” children in the neighborhood and church and loved them as her own children and grandchildren.
