Don was born in Lowville, New York to Lydia and Floyd Shaw. He was the youngest of 6 children.
After High School, Don served in the United States Army from 1959 until 1962. He served as a Lineman and then was appointed to be the Driver for the Company Commander, after his service in Germany. Don was honorably discharged from the military in 1962.
In 1962 Don met his wife and soulmate of 58 years, Donna. They were married in September of 1962. They began their life together in Seattle Washington, where they had 3 of their 5 children, Valerie, Mike and Ken. Don worked in Alaska, as a Commercial Fisherman, for 3 months out of the year and the remaining months would work full time at Marine Lumber in Seattle. Don and Donna moved their family to Portland, OR in 1972, where Don started his career with Freightliner, as a Journeyman mechanic for 34 years. This is where they gave birth to twin daughters, Angela and Julie. They raised their 5 children in Portland and built many happy memories in the family home.
Don had a love for life and for his family. He always looked for the good in people. He was liked by everyone who knew him and was blessed with lifelong friends. He shared a passion for drag boat racing with his son Ken. He loved driving his drag boat and attending the drag boat races regularly to watch his son compete. He loved being outdoors in the sunshine and could always be found either cleaning his cars, keeping the yard beautiful or working on his boat. The family is mourning the loss of a wonderful husband and father and a man who protected and provided for his family, all the days of his life.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Donna and their 5 children; Valerie, Mike, Ken, Angela and Julie and his Son-in-Laws; Larry and Jim and a Daughter-In-Law; Carla.
