1938 - 2023
Our beloved Diane Moyers (Doak) passed away on April 28th, at the age of 85, of natural
causes, in Portland, Oregon. She was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and by third grade
lived in Fort Collins where she graduated from Fort Collins High School in 1956. Diane married
Mike Moyers in 1959 and they raised four children. They lived in Athens, Georgia, Walla Walla
Washington, Alamosa and Colorado Springs, Colorado, Cadillac, Michigan, Susanville and
Janesville, California before Diane returned to her beloved Fort Collins, Colorado. She lived
there for nearly 34 more years before moving to Portland, Oregon, to live close to her children
and grandchildren.
Diane loved her career as an elementary teacher at Janesville, Cache La Poudre, and
Shepardson Elementary Schools in Colorado. She especially loved teaching sixth-grade science and took many students on both day excursions and longer trips like rafting the Colorado River
and participated in the Bob Doak Science Camp, founded by her father.
Diane was an intelligent, independent, and very kind person with a gentle soul and a quick
sense of humor. She stayed engaged with people throughout her life and nature for her entire
life. In Colorado, she participated in Stephen Ministries for many years and was a member of
PEO.
Diane loved birds and she loved to travel. She took many international biking and walking trips
with Experience Plus. She also loved to hike in Rocky Mountain National Park and spent many
happy hours there. Diane was an avid reader and talented quilter, making and gifting quilts to
many people she loved. She spent the past three years living in Portland, Oregon near her
children and grandchildren, volunteering as a greeter where she lived, attending concerts,
playing cribbage, enjoying great food at family gatherings, and rocking the daily Wordle game!
Her “happy place” was taking daily walks around her neighborhood, appreciating nature and
engaging with people she met along the way.
She is survived by many who love her and will miss her very much. These include her children,
Kathy (and Tony Dal Molin) Wolff, Michael (and Annalee) Moyers, Mark Moyers (deceased),
and KellyAnn Aldrich (and Rob Aldrich), all of Portland, her grandchildren, Adam (and Anya) Forest, Laurel (and
Kevin) Barnum, Clara Wolff, Sten Moyers, Logan Aldrich, and Piper Aldrich, her great
grandchildren, Oliver and Maxwell Forest, her siblings, Bob (and Roz) Doak of Fort Collins,
Colorado, and Louise (and Jim Allen) Whitney-Allen of East Lansing, Michigan. Other family members include Ethan (and Renee) Doak and their daughters, Emily and Maddie, Thayne (and Julie) Doak, Ian
Whitney, Alasdair (and Arrthy) Whitney, and Andrew Whitney.
The family asks that any donations be sent to Doctors without Borders. There will be a
Celebration of her Life on September, 9th at 2:00 pm at Friends meeting house at 2222 W Vine Drive, Fort Collins, Colorado.
