Dayne passed away peacefully at his home in the care of his wife on Sunday, March 21, 2010. He boldly lived the last two months of his life celebrating 61 years of marriage and his 82nd birthday, and visiting with family and friends, maintaining his sense of humor through it all.
Dayne was one of three children born to Mansel and Edna (Herring) Tune in Boulder, Illinois. He married Janice Sealy on February 7, 1949. They had three children: Janis, Dennis, and Leslie.
Dayne joined the U.S. Navy when he was 17 serving aboard the USS Hollandia during WWII. An annual highlight for him was his ship’s reunion.
On July 16, 1956, Dayne joined the Portland Police Bureau, retiring as a detective on July 16, 1986.
Dayne is survived by his wife Janice; his children Janis (Martin) Bell, Dennis (Jeannine) Tune, and Leslie (Ralph) Lawrence; granddaughters Rebecca (Jack) Brink and Aubrey-Anne Tune; great-granddaughters Elizabeth and Paige, whom he adored; his twin brother Dale (Helen) Tune, Coral Springs, FL; as well as nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Kenneth.
Dayne had a deep love and respect for God’s creatures, especially his beloved dog Tiny, who went to heaven four days prior to his death. We take comfort in knowing Tiny was waiting for him and we can hear him saying, “Tiny, how in the HELL did you beat me here!”
Thanks to Portland Adventist Hospice for their excellent care and support and for helping to make Dayne’s final days comfortable and peaceful. Dayne lived a long and fulfilling life. He will be greatly missed but will forever remain in our hearts.
A funeral will be held Monday, March 29 at 11:00am in Augustana Lutheran Church, 2710 NE 14th Avenue, Portland with a time of public visitation beginning at 9:30. Remembrances may be made to Portland Adventist Hospice or to the Oregon Humane Society.
Arrangements entrusted to the care of Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, OR03-771-1117
