David Arnt Jerome was born in Hallock Minn. To Joseph and Sarah. Proceeded in death was mother Sarah, father Joseph, sister JoAnn and daughter Deborah.
David is survived by his wife Marilyn, daughter Patti, step daughter Chriss, step son Richard and 5 grandchildren Ryan, Melissa, Danny, Curtis and Nick.
David lived in Hallock until the age of 6, he than moved to Grand Forks N.D. His first job was delivering the news paper for the Grand Forks Herald, where he earned a Certificate of Merits for doing such a good job. He loved riding his bike, and in the winter he would ice skate every chance he got. He also played hockey, and in 1960 his team went to the state championship game and won it. After school he worked at blacks bakery frying donuts and started his career in the bakery. A few years later in the fall he would work in the potato fields hauling potatoes after he got off work from the bakery.
Dave had two daughters, Deborah Ann and Patti Kay. They moved to Oregon in 1968 and got a job at the Langendorf bakery where he worked for a couple years until he was laid off. Soon after Fred Meyers needed a bun K operator, so the union called Dave and that is how Dave started at Fred Meyers in 1970. He worked his way up to production manager until he retired in 2003.
Dave and Marilyn married Dec. 7 1980, they had an already made family. Marilyn had two children, a son Rick and daughter Chriss. The family enjoyed horse back riding, fishing, boating and camping. They all enjoyed doing family things. Dave was always great with the kids he loved playing games and was always quick with a laugh and a smile.
They have a home in Sturgis S.D. and enjoyed spending time with the family in South Dakota, North Dakota, and Minnesota. They also did a little traveling from New York to Florida and places in between. Dave loves country music so we went to Branson with a group of people, Dave loved it.
He tried his hand at golf, but decided he wasn’t improving so that was it for golf. He enjoyed monte carlo bowling with a group from the bakery, then they got together and played a little poker. Then at the age of 50 he tried his luck at snow skiing, he very much enjoyed it, it reminded him of his hockey days.
Dave enjoyed his aquariums, wich with the help of his family grew into building two large ponds with waterfalls and a 40 ft streem. Dave enjoyed watching his koi. He would ride around the yard on his golf cart. The grand kids also enjoyed the golf cart, so it kept hime very busy keeping it going.
Besides his family he had two buddies, a scotty terrier named Watson and a german schnauzer named Murphy. They were with him weather he was in his chair or in bed. Dave just never complained, he always had a positive attitude. If you would ask him how do you feel and he would always say o.k. he was so special in all of our lives and will be greatly missed.
David was not just my husband he was my best friend, we didn’t do to much without each other. We helped each other through the good times and the hard times. We would start our days at the bar in the kitchen watching the news and planning our day. Until the end he had his wonderful laugh and smile. There will always be an empty hole in my heart.
Patti
What I always remember about dad is that you could always count on him to joke around with you. He was always best at just being a smartie pants. He would say “duh- who wouldn’t of thought of that?” which would always make everyone in the room laugh. But everyone would get a chance to get picked on, which was half the fun.
The last year of his life he was so amazing! He always was positive and up beat. Never showed he was worried or upset, which always made it so easy to be around in the hard times.
He will be missed so much
Chriss
I feel very fortunate to have had Dave in my life as a step dad. The memories are endless. Im going to miss him so much, especially the sense of humor he had and there was always laughter.
