David (Gale) Duncan, M.D. passed quietly at home May 18, 2012. He was born Feb. 1, 1910 in Litchville, North Dakota. He graduated from University of Minnesota and earned his medical degree from Creighton University in 1936. After an internship at Emanuel Hospital in Portland, where he met his future bride Miriam, he worked as a doctor for CCC camps, the Union Pacific in Huntington, Oregon, and in Council, Idaho. He was a captain in the US Army during WWII and spent 3 years in the South Pacific.
David practiced family medicine at the same location on Alberta St. in NE Portland from 1945 until 1990 and he was affiliated with Holladay Park, Emanuel, and Woodland Park Hospitals. He was the president of the Oregon Academy of Family Practice in 1955. He was a member of American Legion and the Finnish Lodge. He enjoyed gardening, golf, and family events including fishing and hunting trips. He is survived by Miriam, his wife of 73 years, sons Douglas (Marilyn) and Dean (Colette), four grandchildren: Scott (Perry), Jeffrey (Magalie), Bryan, and Heidi; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald Angus. His family will have a private interment at Willamette National Cemetery.
