Darwin Lee Bates

Darwin was born Nov.19th 1948 to Thomas and Benita Bates in Eugene, Oregon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his three older siblings, Garry, Darlene and Wesley and his grandson Vallejo.

Darwin married Sheila Dunlap, 1971, in Albany, OR. They have six children, Trevor, Hannah, Sarah, David, Timothy and Jonathan. Darwin has 12 grandchildren: Dylan, Blaine, Isaac, Tiffany, Connor, Alexander, Adayla, Vallejo, Jasmine, Jonathan, Meredith and Artemis. One great-grandchild, Adeline.

Darwin enlisted into the U.S. Marine Corp 1965 and served in Vietnam.   

Darwin’s favorite hobby was archery. He spent many hours at the “Bow Rack” in Springfield, OR. He enjoyed hunting, mostly with his compound bow. He had a fantastic sense of humor and loved to laugh.

Services for Darwin will be held Wednesday, February 15, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Lincoln Memorial Park & Funeral Home, 11801 SE Mt Scott Blvd., Portland, OR 97086.

Military honors will be held for Darwin shortly after the funeral service.
