Dan was born in Portland, Oregon, on April 24, 1947, to Walter Henry von Allmen and Frances Louise von Allmen. A graduate of Wilson High School, he attended Portland State University and built a career in the lumber industry.
Dan’s devotion to faith and family was central to his life. Attending the activities of his kids and grandkids brought him great joy, from school plays to sports to music and more. Dan loved the holidays and gatherings that grew over time as in-laws joined and grandkids arrived. He led the giving of gifts and the mealtime prayer.
Dan and his wife, Anne, loved to travel and forged friendships with people they met along the way. They visited Switzerland and Finland, connecting with family and building out the von Allmen family tree. Over the course of 30 years, beginning in 1989, they vacationed annually in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. They shared their love of Cabo by inviting family and friends to join them there.
Dan’s lifelong love of baseball began when he played in his youth. As a parent, he coached Little League. Dan could talk baseball greats from generations past as easily as citing the score from a recent series. It was a heartfelt point of connection with fellow fans and friends.
Dan’s kind heart, gentle nature, and twinkling eyes will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Ellen Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Anne; daughters Kim (Bill) and Kirsten; sons Corey (Stephanie) and Brian (Amanda); grandchildren Atreyu, Bodie, Brooklyn, Parker, and Evabelle; nephews Brad Anderson (Sopie) and Craig Anderson (Sarah); and great nephews and nieces Yann, Koffi, Jansen, Zaack, Viggo, Mado, Paley, and Sullie.
The family would like thank the team at Providence St. Vincent for the care they provided Dan, with special thanks to those at the Heart Institute whose support spanned decades. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Dan can be made to the Providence St. Vincent Medical Foundation - Heart Institute.
