Joseph Dale Frantz, of Mountaindale, passed away Friday morning, March 14, 2014, at the age of 88. A memorial service will be held at 11am on Friday, March 21, 2014, at Zion Lutheran Church, 30900 NW Evergreen Road, Hillsboro, Oregon. A reception, also at Zion Lutheran, will immediately follow the chapel ceremony. A private family ceremony will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens, Portland.
"Dale" as he was known by most, was born in Petroleum, Wells County, Indiana, one of 12 children to John and Frankie Frantz. Dale grew up as a child in Petroleum, then moved to Hillsboro with his parents and some of his siblings after he was out of high school. He married Shirley Jean Clark of Hillsboro on Nov. 19, 1950, in Hillsboro Christian Church. Dale spent most of his working years at Haley Foods in Hillsboro as a truck driver, the later as a warehouse foreman. Dale was an avid golfer and also had a passion for gardening. He was an active member of Hillsboro Christian Church and later Zion Lutheran Church. On Sept. 8, 2002, Dale married Doloris VanDomelen at Zion Lutheran Church after his first wife, Shirley, Passed away in 1998.
Dale is survived by his wife, Doloris VanDomelen-Frantz; daughters, Christy Briggs, Kelly Reilly and Kerry Stock; sons, Nick Frantz and Craig Frantz; daughters, Christy Briggs, Kelly Reilly, and Kerry Stock; sons, Nick Frantz and Craig Frantz; stepdaughters; Jolene Sholey and Angie Reese; stepsons, Dave VanDomelen and Bart VanDomelen; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; and brother, Robert Lee Frantz.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that any donations be made to the "Ruby Reese Fund" (Dale's granddaughter) to help fight kidney cancer, P.O. Box 90, North Plains, OR 97133.
