He is survived by his wife, Jennifer; his sons Riley and Colin; his parents, Charlie and Connie; his sisters, Carrie and Cindy; and beloved nephews and nieces Mason, Madison, Ryan, Thomas, and Lilly.
Although Cory was born in Portland, Oregon, he spent all of his youth in Kodiak, Alaska. He’d walk through the woods to East Elementary, where his loyal dog Leia waited outside his classroom window, ready to walk Cory back home. He excelled in sports, most notably in wrestling, track and basketball. Watching #52, nicknamed Three-Story-Cory, play for Kodiak High School was a sight to behold.
Cory was raised in a commercial fishing family, spending weekends and summers on the boats, working side by side with his dad from an early age. Cory attended college, first in Fairbanks then Anchorage, and spent his twenties fishing the Bering Sea. Even when he later worked at Nike Headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon, Cory identified as a commercial fisherman. It was in his blood.
Cory met his wife, Jennifer, in March 2000 and they married on January 5, 2002. After suffering a miscarriage, Cory and Jennifer welcomed son Riley in 2005. Cory was smitten with their miracle baby, even after Riley’s Down syndrome diagnosis. Three years later, son Colin completed their family.
Cory quite literally lived for his family, supporting each of them with patience, humor and love. He was our gentle giant, and we miss him to infinity and beyond.
