Carol Jean (Kaasa) Robson was born in Spokane, Washington to Arlie Elizabeth (Young) and Lewis Kaasa on May 14, 1930. Her parents, her husband of 65 years, Bob, and her daughter Mary (Craig) Bowe preceded her in death. She leaves her children; Peter (Sue) Robson, Julie Pronovost, Susan (Michael) Lewis, and Robert (Tracy) Robson; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Carol spent her early years in Spokane, and Tacoma, Washington. She graduated high school from Aquinas Academy in Tacoma with the class of 1947. She was a member of the Glee Club and the Treble Choir. After high school she moved to Eugene to start her nursing education at Sacred Heart General Hospital School of Nursing. While living in Eugene she met Robert (Bob) Robson, who was attending the University of Oregon. They fell in love and married December 21, 1949. Carol left Sacred Heart after getting married and moved with Bob to Portland. They purchased their home in northeast Portland in June of 1950 where they raised their 5 children, retired and grew old together.
After all her children were in school, Carol returned to college to finish her nursing degree.
She earned her nursing license from Portland Community College. She worked as a nurse for 17 years at the Multnomah County/OHSU hospital. Nursing was a rewarding career for her. She cared deeply for her patients and would frequently come home emotionally drained from worrying about them. Being a nurse we thought she could fix all our boo-boo’s even when we got older.
Carol was an avid reader and with the exception of Sci-Fi books she would read anything. If she didn’t have anything new to read you would find her rereading one of her many books. She read the newspaper as well but she was not very interested in magazines. She loved her pets and when they no longer had any she became ‘grandma’ to the pets of her children. They often went camping at the beach and visiting the family cabin on the Deschutes River. Once Carol and Bob retired they took many European trips with members of the parish and a couple of cruises all of which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Carol was a member of the St. Rita’s Women’s Guild, always giving of her time to help out, from working the annual Spaghetti dinner, helping set up and work the bazaars, cleaning the church, to delivering communion to the sick and housebound parishioners. Once a month Carol got together with friends to play bunco, sometimes winning prizes but mostly enjoying the company of her friends. She loved visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as spending holidays with her family. She was a University of Oregon Ducks and Portland Trailblazer fan and since she was from Spokane she routed for the Washington State Cougars especially over the Huskies.
Carol passed away on Friday, September 4, 2015 at the age of 85. She will be greatly missed by her family.
A funeral mass will be held Monday, September 14, 2015 at St. Rita Catholic Church. A reception follows in the church hall.
