Born a tiny caramel brown baby with dark bright eyes and wavy black hair, on August 15th, 1966, to Na’Imah Shamsud-Din (Mable Allen) and Jesse Gonzales in Portland, Oregon.
He spent his life in the City of Roses, attended Jefferson High School for 3 years, and completed his GED at Blue Mountain Community College. Bilal had plans to get his AA in Drug and Alcohol treatment, then further his education with an advanced degree to become a Drug and Alcohol counselor.
He is preceded in death by parents: Na’Imah Shamsud-Din, and Jesse Gonzales. Maternal grandparents, Isaac and Geneva Allen; Paternal grandmother, Maria Gonzales; Twin brothers, Jerome and Jeffery Shamsud-Din, and brothers, Taji Shamsud-Din and Domingo Gonzales; sisters, Ayesha Rasberry, Aliya Shamsud-Din, and Yolanda Limas; and nephew Demond Hart, Jr.
Bilal is survived by his children: daughter, Shoshannah Shamsud-Din Palmer, of Vancouver, WA; and son Malik Hughes. He is also survived by siblings: Kalima Torrence, Portland, OR; twin brothers, Matthew Lily, Portland, OR, and Ify Ina, of Washington; and Michelle Clark, Felicia Gonzales, Manulito Gonzales (Talina), Rico Gonzales, Fernando (Shuna) Gonzales, Alexander Kline, Pedro (Ayesha) Gonzales, all of Portland, Oregon; wife, Crystal Hammick; surviving maternal aunts include Mariah Taylor of Portland and Rosemary Banks of New Jersey; and uncle, Isaka Shamsud-Din of Portland, OR. Also left to mourn his passing are 4 grandchildren, a great grandchild, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and associates.
