Betty J. Pumphrey - (September 1, 1919 - August 28, 2012) – passed away peacefully in her home which had long been her wish. Born in Douglas, Wyoming, she also lived with her family in California and Washington State before marrying and settling to raise her children in Portland, Oregon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd C. Pumphrey and her younger sister, Ina Dee Churchill. She is survived by her two sons, Darrel and Craig Pumphrey, daughter-in-law Shari Pumphrey, daughter Karen Cordes, her sister Eva Mae King, 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
Betty retired after a long tenure with Purdy Brush Company in 1986 and enjoyed life to the fullest including travel, working on her stain glass art, crafts of any kind, sewing, reading and crossword puzzles. In her later years, she became the Portland Trail Blazer’s number 1 fan! She never missed a game on T.V. Her travels over the years took her to Europe, Hawaii, the East Coast and her beloved Oregon Coast. She was always up for adventure and was actively engaged in many projects simultaneously. She was active in her charitable sorority until she suffered a stroke in 2008 which severely limited her independence.
There will be a private family interment at Skyline Memorial Gardens where she will be laid to rest beside her husband as was her wish. In lieu of flowers, a donation to Legacy Hospice of McMinnville in her honor would be appreciated as they provided her comfort, dignity and respect in her final days.
