Born in Peetz, Colorado, on May 27, 1932, to Wynotte Warrick and Dora Ramey, Betty’s early life was one of movement and adventure, being raised all across the United States—though South Dakota was where she spent most of her formative years. She graduated from Grant High School in 1950.
Betty led a vibrant life, full of creativity, laughter, and deep love for her family and community. She first married Dale Graves on April 1, 1950, and together they had two children. Later in life, she found love again with Victor Hale, whom she married on February 27, 1981. She was widowed by Victor.
Professionally, Betty had a successful career in human resources, working for Farwest Bank and later at Nature’s Grocery Store, where her warmth and people skills left a lasting impression.
Beyond work, Betty was a party-planning extraordinaire. She brought joy to everyone around her with her themed gatherings—toga parties, Halloween extravaganzas, tree-trimming traditions, and Sherlock Holmes mystery nights. As a founding member of a Sherlock Holmes Society, she immersed herself in the world of intrigue and fun. She had a passion for antique collecting, doll making, tole painting, and costumes. Known affectionately by her grandchildren as “Christmas Granny Mame,” she created magical memories for every generation.
Her heart belonged to children—her own, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and the countless others she outfitted, celebrated, and embraced with joy.
Betty is survived by her daughter, Terri Burton, and her son, Bradley Graves (Sherri). She leaves behind her grandchildren: Lexie Mobley (Daniel), Tia Slightham (Christopher), Colby Florea (Caroline), Trevor Graves (Crystal), and Bryant Graves. She is also remembered with love by her great-grandchildren: Ellieanna Graves, Reilly Graves, Hudson Slightham, Beckett Slightham, Emerson Mobley, and Parker Mobley, as well as her cherished niece, Vicki Harper.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked donations be made to Randall Children's Hospital, Doernbecher Children's Hospital and St. Jude's Children Research Hospital.
Betty Jo Ann Hale lived a life full of sparkle, kindness, humor, and endless love. Her legacy is the joy she spread, the creativity she inspired, and the laughter she left behind.
