Bella Jean Harrington, 84, of Happy Valley, Oregon, passed away on October 24, 2021. She was born in Media, Pennsylvania on January 25, 1937. Bella Jean graduated from Media High School. She was married to Peter A. Harrington on December 26, 1991. She was previously married to Duane Richard Cross from 1957—1987.
Bell had a career being a dedicated home maker, a pet lover, and super gardener, and she had a passion for watching the soap opera “The Young and the Restless”.
Bell will be missed by many. Her best friend Julie said of Bell: “Bell was a hero— she endured life’s crises with grace, common sense, and determination! She found joy in her strong children, Bonnie and David, and her beloved husband, Peter — “He does everything, everything, everything,” she would say.
I loved her more each passing year and we would laugh at the indignities of old age. I’ve heard of the “eleventh hour”, but to me now it’s the “tenth hour”’; when she would call me and start my day. I know she didn’t mean to leave this huge hole in my heart, but the loss of her has. We shared it all— 61 years. My dear sister, I love you.”
Phyllis wrote to Peter in the wake of the loss of Bell to add: “ Bell, or ‘Jelly Bean’, and I were inseparable, even when miles apart, since the day we met in Media, PA when Bell was just 9 years old. She will be so dearly missed by myself and my family.”
She was survived by her husband, Peter Harrington of Happy Valley, Oregon; children, David D Cross of Happy Valley, Oregon, and Bonnie Cross of Roseburg, Oregon; stepchildren, Michael L Harrington of Colorado Springs, CO, and Moreen Helser of Mount Vernon, Ohio; Five grandchildren; Ten great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Shirley Cross of Salem, Oregon. She is also survived by her two beloved best friends, Julie Stelts of Chandler, AZ, and Phyllis Hennessey of Wilmington, DE.
Bell was a treasure and she will be missed by the countless people who love her.
