Anthony Roy Carlson was born on August 6, 1991 in Portland, OR. His parents are Robert Carlson and Judy Meedom. He was raised in the Beaverton area and graduated from Beaverton High School in 2010. According to his mother, Tony was always a “water baby.” He loved swimming, and made J.V. swim team as a freshman and lettered on the varsity swim team as a sophomore. He enjoyed being involved in school activities. He was a lighting technician for the theater group from his freshman year through his junior year. Tony also volunteered at the recreation center, helping with the after school daycare program.
After High School, Tony enlisted in the Oregon National Guard. He discovered a great purpose in the National Guard, and had passion for serving and defending this nation. He completed his basic training at Fort Benning, GA., and was attending his AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland. He was talking of voluntarily deploying to the Middle East, where he felt he could help and make a difference. He also showed interest in pursuing a firefighting career through the National Guard.
Tony had a zest for life, and lived each day to its fullest. He was outgoing and made friends with ease. He will be remembered with love.
Tony passed away on May 27, 2011 in Maryland. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 11, 2011 in Willamette National Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2011 in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Tony is survived by his parents, Judy Meedom and Robert Carlson; brother, Matthew Meedom; step-brother, Jessy Ramirez; step-sister, Ashley Josten; grandparents, William and Joyce Carlson, Gordon and Beverly Makinster, and Sylvia and Charles Selden; and many cherished friends.
The family suggests contributions in Tony’s name to the Oregon Humane Society.
