With heavy hearts and loving memory, we announce the passing of Annie Acelar Young on October 14, 2024. At the age of 69, after a life well-lived, she passed peacefully at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon.
The youngest of six children, Annie was born Annie Bamer Acelar on April 2, 1955 in Iloilo City, Philippines to Iva and Santiago Acelar. She attended school in the Philippines before moving to the United States in 1976 to join her family in the Pacific Northwest, eventually settling and spending most of her years in Portland.
Annie worked in food service and office administration for several years before starting her career as a specialty butcher and fishwife, a passion she poured her heart into for over two decades as it connected her with home and gave her a way to share her love of food and family with others.
Annie was known for her bright smile, her sense of humor and her love of cooking. She was a devout Catholic, a loving mother and an incredibly hard worker, achieving each with equal passion and dedication. She leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter and generosity for those around her. She touched the lives of all who knew her and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her long-time partner, Rick; her children Judy, Jenny and Ricky; and her five grandchildren, Ryxinne, Red, Zephaniah, Darnett and Jennell.
A viewing will be held at Zeller Chapel of the Roses on October 20, 2024 for close family and friends. Her ashes will be released into the Pacific Ocean by her family to honor her final wishes and celebrate her memory.
