July 25, 1936 - June 11, 2011
Amelia Hawkins was born July 25, 1936 in Carey, Idaho. She was one of three children born to Claude and Sibyl Harkins. After graduating for Richfield High School in 1955, she married Jim Hawkins and they had baby girl, Terrie Lee.
After a while, she settled in Boise, Idaho and found a career niche in the Hotel Service Industry. She started out as a front desk clerk at the Safari Motor Inn and continued her journey onward and upward at such places as Shilo Inn and Ameri-Suites. For over 30 years her naturally friendly and outgoing personality was a great fit for this line of work and one that she enjoyed doing.
Eventually, retirement came and it was time to get busy on that to-do-list. Never one to sit idle for too long, she always found a way to keep occupied and was forever the crafter and hobbyist. Her specialty was turning seashells and popsicle sticks into the most beautiful works of art. Along with her joy for gardening, spending time with her Red Hatters and a passion for traveling she was always on the go.
During her las years she found love, happiness and companionship in a wonderful man, Art Wigg. They settled into their role of snow birds, wintering in San Carlos, Mexico. They enjoyed long walks on the beach and spent the res of the year between their home in Arizona and traveling the United States. Being the avid photographer, there were always new pictures to document the wonderous destinations as well as an annual report of the years journeys in her Christmas cards. How we will miss those those letters.
Amelia had an exuberant smile that could light up any room. A laugh that was infectious and a warmth that would befriend anyone. She was a loving Mother, devoted friend to many and an adventurous companion.
In April of 2011 she was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. She passed away on June 11, 2011 in Portland, Oregon. Amelia is survived by her Daughter; Terrie Wiseman and her Brother; Melvin (Bud) Harkins. Amelia will be greatly missed by a world full of people that had the privilege to know her.
Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes has the honor of directing arrangements for the Hawkins Family.
