Albert Edward Weese

Albert “Al” Weese passed away peacefully at the age of 89 at his home in Portland on July 15, 2016. Al was born December 3, 1926 in St. Louis, MO. to George and Marie (Paulis) Weese. Al joined the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served aboard the Rockwall, the Miami, and the Shangri La ships until November 1947. Al also served in the U.S. Air Force at Riverside, CA. from May 1951 to December 1952.

Al had a passion for outdoor activities. He was active in the Mazamas from 1957-1996, making 116 climbs. Al also participated in mountain rescues. Other hobbies included backpacking, skiing and running. Al ran several marathons, his first at age 50.

In 1972, Al married Sharon Baumbaugh and together they enjoyed hiking, camping, and traveling to many countries, including China. After Al retired in 1991, he and Sharon continued their world travels, often joined by family and friends.

Al is survived by his loving wife Sharon, brothers George and Walter, sister Ruth, children Linda (Terry), David, Robert, Beverly (Doug), 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Al will be held at 1:00 p.m. July 30, 2016 at St. Aidan’s Episcopal Church, 17405 N.E. Glisan St. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to St. Aidan’s Church or the Oregon Humane Society.
