He was born September 1, 1937 in Fairfield a son of the late Erlon Sr and Vesta Rand. On March 19, 1966 he married Barbara E. Smith of Munjoy Hill, Portland.
He was educated in Portland and New Gloucester Schools and continued his education in the service. He received a Master degree in Graphic and Applied Arts from the University of New Hampshire. Randy was employed by J. Weston Walch Publishers for 43 years.
Randy served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1964 and is a proud Veteran of the Korean and Vietnam War.
He joined Hadattah Lodge #117 of the Odd Fellows in October 1968 and served as Grand Noble from October 1970 through October 1972. He then joined Grand Lodge of Maine in October of 1985 and served as Deputy Grand Master from 1988 through 1990, also serving as Grand Chaplain and Grand Marshall from 1987-1988. He was elected Grand Warden in 1990, Deputy Grand Master in 1991 and Grand Master in 1992. He was a member of the Ivy Rebekah Lodge # 5, Ridgeley Canton #1, Unity Lodge #3 and was a member of Eastern Star Encampment #2. He also served as President of the Board of Trustees for the Odd Fellow and Rebekah Home of Maine for many years. Randy received the Meritorious Award from the Sovereign Grand Lodger of the World.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years Barbara E. Smith Rand, two daughters: Julie M. Rand Hicks and her husband Terry and DeAnn L. Cruz. He also will be missed by his 7 grandchildren and one great grandson, Nieces and Nephews.
Family and friends are invited for a time of visitation from 4-7 pm Friday, November 25, 2011 at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home 199 Woodford St. Portland, where a funeral service will be held 10 am Saturday November 26. Interment will follow at Brooklawn Memorial Park.
