Virginia W. Emerick

Gorham - Ginny Emerick, 95, died peacefully on October 7, 2024 in the comfort of her home surrounded by loved ones and family. Born on January 18, 1929, in Portland, Maine, Ginny was a daughter of Katherine Connolly and Francis Joseph Curran. She grew up on Winter Street, was a member of St. Dominic’s Parish, and a graduate of Portland High School in 1946.

Ginny worked for Prudential Insurance Co until her marriage to Robert J Walsh, Jr. They lived in PA, NY, NJ, and MA before finally moving back home to Falmouth, Maine to raise their two children. During those years, Ginny was an active member of Holy Martyrs Church, a Scout Den Mother, and an original member of Val Halla Golf Course where she met many lifelong friends. She was a passionate bridge player, loved to bowl, and was always first on the dance floor when the music started.

The core of Ginny’s life was her family and Irish heritage. She enjoyed countless summers with beloved family members on Highland Lake in Bridgton. Her love of family and devotion to their care was second to none. Ginny was known as a second mother to many of her nieces and nephews. All were welcomed in her home with open arms and heart. Upon retirement, Ginny and Bob lived briefly in Augusta before moving to Ocala, FL to begin a new chapter. Sadly, after 45 years of marriage, Bob passed away. As Ginny liked to say, Bob must have ‘sent’ Norman Emerick to her. They married and enjoyed 20 years together, creating memories with their blended family, traveling often, living life in NY and Gorham ME to the fullest until his passing in 2018.

Ginny is predeceased by her parents, Katherine and Francis Curran, her husbands, Robert Walsh and Norman Emerick; her sisters Mary Valicenti, Ann Skillin, Katherine Collins, and brother Francis Curran.

She is survived by her children, David Walsh and his wife Peggy of Raymond, Diane Knott and her husband Ronald of Gorham; 4 grandchildren Patrick, Lindsay (Ben), Daniel (Leigh ann), Erin, and 8 beautiful great grandchildren all located in Maine. She is also survived by her brother John Curran of Prince Frederick, Maryland.

She leaves behind a beautiful loving family, including her extended Emerick relatives, and many nieces and nephews she loved dearly. We are remembering Ginny for her belief that angels are all around us. Her unconditional faith and zest for life was contagious. Slainte, Mom; you will be missed!

Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Thursday, October 24, 2024, from 3-5 pm, at Jones, Rich & Barnes, 199 Woodford St, Portland. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at 11:00 am, at St. Hyacinth Church, 268 Brown St, Westbrook.
