Virginia, better known as Gini, was first and foremost a mother, at least until the final six months of her life, when to her absolute delight she became a grandmother. During her young adult years her two sons were the lights of her life. As they grew up she developed a strong career working as a provider service representative for a non-profit insurance company, traveling all over Maine and New England, but she always put family, friends, and play first. Gini particularly enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, walking on the beautiful trails of Maine, and dining and chatting with her many close friends. She was also a life-long animal lover, who had many wonderful pets and who made an annual Christmas donation to a local animal shelter.
Gini was a devoted mother, a loving mother-in-law, a warm friend, and too briefly, a wonderful grandmother. She radiated an inner kindness and exuberance that endeared her to both lifelong friends and casual acquaintances. She never lost her inner spirit, joy for life, or kindness towards everyone she met. She was a blessing and an inspiration to those who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Gini is survived by her two sons, Devin Anderson and his wife Karyn and Derek Anderson and his wife Natalie Dean, her mother Patricia Donovan, her two brothers John and Michael Donovan, and her grandson Keegan Anderson. She was also the loving daughter of the late John Donovan.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Wilde Memorial Chapel at Evergreen Cemetery, 672 Stevens Avenue in Portland, Maine on Saturday, December 29th at 10am.
Arrangements are under the care of Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 981 Forest Ave., Portland. Please visit www.advantageportland.com to sign Gini’s guestbook
