

Vincent “Vinny” A. DiFillipo, Sr., age 63, Retired Deputy Fire Chief, Portland Fire Department, Vinny Jimmy as so many affectionately knew him, passed away on December 22nd at his residence surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in Portland the son of Samuel, Sr., and Carolyn Palermo DiFillipo. He attended Portland schools graduating from Deering High School class of 1971. He later graduated from Southern Maine Technical College now SMCC with a degree in Fire Science.
A devoted family man first, his children were raised in gentle kindness and guided by high moral principles. His beautiful granddaughters kept his heart light and were everything to him.
Vinny was a decorated member of the Portland Fire Department for 30 years. As a beloved and respected leader he retired as Deputy Chief in 2010. Known for being honest, supportive and trusting he was both a high school and college football official. He received the 2015 football official’s award; recognizing 42 years of dedication and leadership to the sport he loved.
Vinny is remembered for his caring manner, infectious smile, sacrificing ways and the unselfish code he lived by, to know him was to love him, and be loved by him. It is with heavy hearts that we send our beloved Vinny to live with the angels.
He is predeceased by his father Samuel DiFillipo, Sr. who died in 1978.
Besides his mother, he leaves his beautiful wife of 43 years, Joyce (DiBiase) A. DiFillipo, a daughter, Danielle DiFillipo, his son Portland firefighter, “Vinny” Jimmy DiFillipo,Jr., and his wife Cara, all of Portland, grandchildren Isabella and Sicily DiFillipo; of Portland, sister Marta Voci, of Plymouth, Mass, brothers Ralph Genovese, of Plymouth, Mass, Samuel DiFillipo Jr; of Gray, Michael DiFillipo, of Ohio and Aaron DiFillipo, of Cornish. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews; friends and members of the Portland Fire Department family.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend at time of visitation on Monday December 28, 2015 from 4-7PM at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday December 29, 2015 at 10AM at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, Federal St, Portland. Interment with Firefighter honors will follow at the family lot at New Calvary Cemetery, South Portland.
